Did you know that bats are the only mammals that can actually fly? There are about 1000 different species of bats in the world. Bonaire has 9 different species of bats!!

The nine bat species on Bonaire are:
1) Pallas’ Mastiff Bat or Velvety Freetailed Bat (Molossus molossus)
2) Curaçaoan Long-Nosed Bat (Leptonycteris curasoae)
3) Miller’s Long-Tongued Bat (Glossophaga longirostris)
4) Peter’s Ghost-Faced Bat (Mormoops megalophylla)
5) Fisherman Bat or Greater Bulldog Bat (Noctilio leporinus)
6) Trinidadian Funnel-Eared Bat (Natalus tumidirotris)
7) Little Brown Bat (Myotis nesopolus)
8) Small Leaf-Nosed Bat (Ametrida centurio)
9) Davy’s Naked-Backed Bat (Pteronotus davyi)
