Connecting People with Nature: Coral Spawning 2017 – Timing is everything!
Join STINAPA biologist Caren Eckrich at CIEE, Kaya Gobernador Debrot 26, for a talk on coral spawning from 7- 8 in the evening on Tuesday September 5th.
If you like to dive and have always wanted to witness coral spawning, this is a presentation you don’t want to miss. Caren will explain the biology of coral spawning and give tips on when to go diving and what to look for. This year, the best nights to see the most abundant star corals spawning are Sept 12th and Oct 11th and 12th, between 9:30 and 10:30pm. However, it’s prudent to go the night before and, if necessary, the night after just to make sure you see it! Another natural wonder you don’t want to miss is the glowing ostracod courtship displays, which happens approximately 50 minutes after the sunset 3-6 nights after the full moon. Caren will also include some information on ostracods in her presentation. If you’re unable to come, you may find the coral spawning schedule on the STINAPA’s website – news page. This presentation is part of STINAPA’s Connecting People with Nature’ campaign and is open to the public and free of charge.
