In the context of the STINAPA Bonaire Shark Week, on Monday June 20th a start was made at the Sentro di Bario Rincon, with presentations on sharks and a variety of games for kids. The Save Our Sharks project is an initiative of the Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance and is made possible by the ‘Nationale Postcode Loterij’.
On Monday June 20th at the Sentro di Bario Rincon, children participated in a presentation on sharks and a variety of games. The childeren were very entusiastic and had a whole bunch of questions about sharks. After the presentation each child received a fossilized shark tooth to take home. The teeth were found along the coast of Florida by the Right family and donated to STINAPA to use during Shark Week 2016.
This whole week STINAPA is giving presentations on sharks and playing shark games for the afterschool programs at each Sentro di Bario on our island.
Due to intense overfishing, shark populations throughout the world are in trouble. The Save Our Sharks campaign is focused on creating shark awareness within the Bonairean community, working with fishermen and conducting research on sharks.
