Bee Colony

Colony of honey bees

Honey Bees are social and live in a colony. A colony may consist of tens of thousands of individuals. Honey bees live in a hive. This can be manmade. In the wild they prefer nest sites that are clean, dry and protected from the weather, with an entrance that is 3 meters above ground and facing south or southeast if in the Northern Hemisphere and will be facing north of northeast if in the Southern Hemisphere.

A colony of honey bees has three distinct types of organisms:

  1. the queen
  2. the drones
  3. the workers
